Zahra Afshar

Zahra Afshar is the Police Action Centre’s lead volunteer for the clinic.

Zahra is a solicitor, working as an in-house lawyer for an international company. She has particular interest in juvenile justice and has been involved in the following:-

- successfully lobbied the issue of children imprisoned with their mothers in the Committee of the Rights of the Child;
- works with children released from prison who do not have parental care;
- set up rehabilitation programs for institutionalised children who struggle to adjust to independent living;
- worked with charities providing educational support for children who suffer from learning disabilities and have been subject to institutionalisation.

Zahra is also is a specialist on orphanage care.

Zahra has worked for the International Bar Association as a researcher on the topic of Islamic Law and Human Rights.
