Our People

The Police Action Centre is a charitable organisation and is run by a Board of Trustees.

The Chair and Company Secretary is Yusuf Khan, who administers the running of the Police Action Centre.

Our Director of Legal and Policy is Sophie Khan, a solicitor-advocate specialising in Actions Against the Police and Inquest Law. She has been specialising in Actions Against the Police and Inquest Law for several years and also campaigns on police-related issues such as the excessive use of Tasers, indiscriminate use of stop and search and against the privatisation of the police.

She has acted for families whose relatives have died following police contact and police restraint. She continues to raise awareness of the need to improve police training around the use of restraint to take into account the risks and consequences so as to prevent future deaths during arrest or in police custody.

She writes regularly for the Solicitors Journal on police law and has a dedicated blog ‘On the beat’ at http://www.solicitorsjournal.com/blogs.

She is a trustee of the Stop and Search Legal Project (SSLP) an educational project run by a collective of volunteer lawyers.

And an executive member of the Haldane Society of Socialist Lawyers a professional organisation which provides a forum for discussion and analysis of the law from a socialist perspective.

We have a number of volunteers who assist with the advice clinic and research projects, which is lead by Zahra Afshar, a solicitor working as an in-house lawyer for an international company.

As the organisation grows we will seek to recruit interns to assist with the advice clinic and research projects.
